A Visit to Lake Cavehall
—To the Tune of Belle Petite
By ZHANG Xiaoxiang
Tr. ZHAO Yanchun
Green grass on Cavehall Lake,
Mid-autumn is near
Not a scene at all does it make.
A vast sea like a mirror, like blue jade,
I row a yacht, just like a grass blade.
The moon shining so bright,
The Milky Way’s bleached light
Cast shades in and out, left and right.
It’s so hard to impart
To you what I feel good in my heart.
Twixt hill and sea, years in a row,
The lonely moon does glow;
Her chest is just like ice and snow.
Wearing hair so short and with sleeves so cold
I row on the blue rolling and rolled.
I hold up water clear
To fill the Dipper near.
And ask all to be my guests dear.
Tapped the board, tapped the row,
Which night is tonight I do not know.
